If you lost a deposit with Refco, that is not a forex trading loss.

Rather its either a capital loss, or a business bad debt. It depends on some factors.

Yes, the forex loss is line 21 ordinary providing you did not elect out of IRC 988.

If the remainder is small, its probably okay to take the full amount on line 21. Otherwise, take the balance of the loss as a capital loss - it might be under the 3k capital loss limitation.
