I thought about this too but afaik the theory is that a leading diagonal is a 53535 and not a 33333. This is where it is described, down the page, Elliott Wave International - Elliott Wave Dot Net

hey..
i had written earlier about this, i think the usdjpy movement there was a leading diagonal.. an expanding to be exact.
they can be in 3 waves or 5 waves, doesnt matter.
